How To Draw Fantasy Art And Rpg Maps Review
So this is a chip of an unusual book review. I was browsing Amazon and saw this book, HOW TO DRAW FANTASY ART AND RPG MAPS by Jared Blando. I always wanted to draw maps, except I suck at cartoon. This isn't false modesty. I suck at cartoon. You should've seen my awesome map of Hugh's castle. OMG. ::shudder::
Just and then Amazon kept helpfully suggesting this book every time I would log on. Hey, do y'all think you looked at this book? Would you similar to buy this book? What near more books on map making?
I finally gave upwardly and bought information technology. Because why non, right?
In my experience art books get similar this:
So I didn't accept high hopes.
I was incorrect. Jared starts with a bare page and gives very simple instructions. Draw a hulk. Anybody can draw a blob, right? Refine your blob with some wiggly outlines. Refine a bit more. Oh look, yous got a continent.
Depict a triangle. Describe more triangles. Depict some lines on the triangles. You got a mountain range.
Describe some squiggles effectually your blob. Congratulations, here is an ocean.
Then behold, after much erasing and pencil sharpening and more erasing, my first attempt at a clumsy map. I took a motion picture with my phone.
Then I messed with information technology in Photoshop. I used some free stock images from Pixabay for backgrounds.
Things I've learned: I think I might go better results on a tablet. I am messy and the constant erasing resulted in some nighttime areas on the mountain range. I really would like to figure out if I can depict this on my iPad somehow.
Too, next time I will get out naming of towns and boondocks icons until the Photoshop stage. I am clearly not precise enough to non screw this up.
Other than that, I had a ton of fun. So if you are in the market place for a fantasy map how-to volume, this one is pretty awesome.
